Riding was an essential part of every officers training in the Royal Hungarian Army academies. Even though it wasn't always a part of the examined officers every day in his further career, it was still a historical tradition as well as a part of the training. The Hungarian army relied on horses even during WW2 when mechanized military branches was more efficient, but the quantity of horses saved many lives in the wintertime as vehicles could not operate due to the cold and superior enemy power.
