" Reserve "

A group of older Hungarian soldiers poses for a photograph during the interwar period. Due to the military restrictions imposed on Hungary after the First World War, the Royal Hungarian Army was limited to a relatively small standing force. To maintain a pool of trained manpower, older reservists were regularly called up for short periods of refresher training and repetition service.

Many of these men were veterans of the Great War of 1914–1918, bringing valuable military experience from their service in the Austro-Hungarian Army. Their continued participation in training helped preserve military knowledge and readiness during a period when Hungary's ability to maintain a large active army was severely constrained.

This photograph reflects the important role played by reservists in Hungary's interwar defense system and serves as a reminder that many of these soldiers had already experienced the hardships of one major conflict before being called upon to serve again.
