Honvéd Portrait
Hungarian Air-Force Honvéd (private)
I often get the question what kind of photographs I use for this blog. Do I use the best possible quality photos, what size images I use, how do I acquire the right contrast and do I fix the photographs by manipulation.
The photographs I work with are often the overlooked ones—images that may not be particularly rare, valuable, or sought after, yet still contain fascinating details and untapped potential. Every photograph, regardless of its monetary value, represents a small piece of history worth preserving.
I scan each photograph at a very high resolution and carefully remove dust, scratches, and other signs of age to restore as much of its original quality as possible. Once the restoration work is complete, I adjust the tonal range and contrast to achieve the best possible result.
In many cases, the original print was produced with less-than-ideal darkroom techniques, resulting in flat tones or poor contrast. Modern digital restoration makes it possible to recover details that may have remained hidden for decades, revealing the image with a clarity and depth that was often never fully realised in the original print.
