LEVENTE
1921–1945
Branch of Service
The Levente movement was Hungary's national youth training organization, established to provide physical education, civic instruction and pre-military training for boys and young men during the interwar period and the Second World War.
Created in the aftermath of the Treaty of Trianon, the organization played an important role in preparing future generations for military service through sports, field exercises, marching, discipline and technical instruction. By the late 1930s and wartime years, Levente had become one of the largest youth organizations in Hungary.
This archive explores Levente uniforms, insignia, training activities, camps, instructors, group photographs and original documents that illustrate the daily life and experiences of Hungarian youth during a transformative period in the nation's history.
