Branch of Service

The Royal Hungarian River Forces safeguarded Hungary's waterways and played an important role in river patrol, mine warfare and transport operations. Operating primarily on the Danube and its tributaries, river units combined naval traditions with the unique demands of inland waterway service.

This archive documents the officers, sailors, vessels, river monitors, patrol craft and wartime activities of Hungary's river forces through original photographs, documents and historical research.
